Course: Prevent Duty Level 1

This course encompasses both the individual Prevent responsibilities for frontline workers and sector-specific duties. Throughout the course, case studies and scenarios offer valuable opportunities to apply key concepts.

This course encompasses both the individual Prevent responsibilities for frontline workers and sector-specific duties. Sector-specific content is delivered via Choose Your Path options, enabling you to choose content pertinent to your role. Throughout the course, case studies and scenarios offer valuable opportunities to apply key concepts.

What you’ll learn

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between safeguarding and child protection and appreciate their significance.
  • Identify the key legislation and statutory framework that support safeguarding practices.
  • Recognise and describe the different forms of child maltreatment.
  • Identify factors that make certain children particularly vulnerable.
  • Recognise and respond to concerns and potential signs of child maltreatment.

Module 1: Introduction to Prevent

Definitions of key terms:-

  • What terrorism looks like
  • What is Prevent?
  • The Channel programme
  • How does radicalisation happen?
  • New social groups, online grooming and extremist messaging online.
Module 2: Prevent Responsibilities

The Prevent legislation encompasses general guidance, information sharing, risk assessment, action plans, counter-terrorism local profiles, and monitoring inspection and enforcement.

Module 3: Potential Signs of Radicalisation

Examples of potential signs of radicalisation and example scenarios.

Module 4: Responding to Concerns

Notice, Check, Share: guidelines for addressing concerns, with example scenarios and different levels of concern.

Module 5: Prevent in Practice

Steps for making a Prevent referral, Local Authority thresholds, the Channel programme, local initiatives and community organisations, Prevent statistics, Channel programme success stories, criticisms of Prevent, the independent review of Prevent, and available resources.

Assessment

You are asked to complete an assessment at the end of the course. To gain a Pass Certificate, you must score 80% or above. But don’t worry, you can take the assessment as many times as you like.
